Life as a Dental Student in Jordan 2025: What I Wish I Knew Before Starting
Date: Jan 29th 2025
Welcome to Jordan's World of Dentistry
Coming from a dental student herself, studying at the University of Jordan, I can tell you that dentistry in Jordan is both a rewarding and challenging experience. Whether you’re about to start or are simply curious about what it’s like, I’m excited to share insights that can guide you on your own journey. With its unique culture and demanding academics, Jordan has so much to offer-and so much to prepare for. Let’s dive in shall we?
University Life and Campus Environment
University life is an exciting mix of challenges and opportunities. With passionate professors and a wealth of resources, the campus provides everything you need for academic and personal growth. To make the most of your experience, there are a few key things to keep in mind. Below are some tips to help you navigate your jouney and truly make the most of your time at University:

Professors are Highly Skilled
Professors are generally incredibly skilled and passionate about helping students. If you don’t understand something, don’t hestitate to approach them after the lecture. Many are happy to listen to you and answer your questions to the best of their capability. Write your questions down and take full advantage of their availability. They are usually friendly and open to listen.
Take Advantage of Student Resources
There are tons of helpful resources provided by upper-year students and graduates, including student notes and material summaries-often for free! I will also upload resources on my page soon, covering everything from dentistry to learning in general, so feel free to check them out to boost your studies.
Join Student Groups and Attend Workshops
Take part in student-led groups (eg. whatsapp groups) and workshops (eg. practice soap carving and waxing for second year students). They’re a great way to get extra help, especially in lab work or hands-on activities. These groups often offer insights and tips that can make a huge difference. Make sure to stay active (eg. ask questions) in these groups and keep an eye out for useful recommendations that could save you time before exams.
Practice with Past Papers and Test Banks
After Studying a topic, always try looking for past paper and test bank questions on it. Many questions in exams are taken from previous exams exactly the same or maybe slightly reworded. So practice will help you get used to the exam format and improve your understanding and memorization. Don’t wait until exam time-practice early to feel confident and prepared!
Attendance is Important
Attendance isusually strict in Jordanian universities. Missing too many lectures can prevent you from sitting the exam. So, make sure to attend most lectures and stay on top of your absences. In the University of Jordan a 15% absence rate from lectures can disqualify you from taking the exam, so be careful about showing up!
Make Friends, but Be Selective
University is a great time to meet new people, but be mindful of who you connect with. Surround yourself with people who share your goals and are motivated to succeed. Avoid falling into the trao of skipping class or neglegting your studies-build friendships that support your academic and life jouney.
Develop New Study Techniques
University life requires letting go of old study habits and acquiring new ones! It’s important to unlearn old techniques from school and fcous more on understanding the material in a way that works best for you. Prepare before each class, and use tools like Notability to keep a check list and create summaries in the form of writing, mind mapping, or highlighting if that works for you. Each student studies differently. This will help you stay ahead and get the most out of each lecture. You got this, I believe in you!
Conclusion
This journey will likely be filled with challenges and ups and downs, but as long as you build resilience and strength to overcome these challenges and try as hard as you can you will see success (iA). These were my realizations in this major, but yours could be different. I hope it was helpful and I’d love to hear about your experiences, opinions, or what you’ve heard about studying dentistry in Jordan. If you’ve got anything to share feel free to write it in the comments to help me and others thrive, thank you!
